Introduction

Davao is on the island of Mindanao, Philippines and is also called the City of Davao. It is the largest city in terms of land area and size in all of the Philippines. The Davao River is the primary drainage channel and runs to a length of 99 m.

The climate here in Davao is tropical due to the presence of subtropical rainforest. A large part of the rainfall is in the summer months, while in the winter months, there is a significant amount of rainfall.

Tip: If you are in Davao during the city’s two annual festivals, the Araw ng Dabaw which is on March 16th, also referred to as Day of Davao (city’s formation day), as well as, the Kadayawan Festival in August is very interesting for tourists. It is a riot of colors and everyone will enjoy seeing the culture and vibrancy of these festivals.

What to see in Davao

On the other side of the mountain, while descending at the Kapatagan trail, you will see the barren sulfur wasteland, which is because Mount Apo on this side is a dormant volcano waiting to erupt anytime.

The Aldevinco Shopping Center is a very interesting stop shop as it has crafts, gifts, and brass-swords from the Maranao tribesmen who also produce traditional craft such as shell craft, loose pearls, brass gongs, mother of pearl inlaid chests, souvenirs, and also modern T-shirts, bags, etc. It is a one-stop-shop to buy many different things.

Kadayawan Festival is Davao’s week-long Harvest Festival. It is so nice to see so much of color and fun as the local inhabitants of Davao and tourists take part in the parades and parties in August.  The city’s ten tribes take part in this annual festival which has street-dancing parades and flower-laden floats along the main streets of Davao.

Davao’s Barangay Langub carabao trail or Davao’s mountain bike trails is a test against gravity and less on one’s biking skills. You can use this mode of transport to visit the Samal & Talicud Beaches.

Tip: Make sure to carry snacks, water, and some over-the-counter medicines while traveling in case you need anything for emergencies.
