Rome is the capital city of Italy. It has a major influence on western civilization, and Rome is also called the 'Capital of the World.' It is the third most visited city in Europe and the fourteenth worldwide. Rome attracts many travelers around the world for many things like cuisine, art, architecture, and its beautiful streets filled with joy.  By night, all of the monuments and statues are lit, creating amazing and picturesque views of the city Rome. It has a thriving nightlife where travelers mix with the Romans sitting on the edge of the fountains and bars that surround them, which is an amazing sight.

How to get to Rome

The airport is called has Leonardo da Vinci in Fiumicino which is about 30 kilometers southwest of the city and the other airport is Ciampino, where most domestic and some international flights arrive which is closer to the southeast of the town.

Several cheap and direct airlines connect India to Rome – from Air India and Air France to British Airways and Lufthansa, you can choose a carrier based upon your budget and convenience. You can quickly get a bus or a taxi from the airport that will drop you to a stop close to your hotel or the central station in less than an hour. The buses are comfortable and cheaper than taxis. There's also the Leonardo Express train that will take you from the airport into the central city. Stop by at the Information Centre and ask for the stop closest to your destination.

Places to visit in Rome

The Vatican. St. Peter's Basilica

The Vatican. St. Peter's Basilica is one of the most famous churches. Inside the church, you will find many works of art. Pieta of Michelangelo is the most admired one and is now protected by glass. It was built in Renaissance style. There are strict rules for entry. The outfit should be decent and no sleeveless tops allowed.

The Pantheon

The Pantheon is the only building of ancient Rome that is in place and complete. It has a great history of Roman history. This is a temple dedicated to Mars, Venus, and the only source of light coming through an opening in its majestic dome. It is also a catholic church, famous for its art and architecture, and is always on top of the bucket list for travelers. It is one of the best-persevered monuments of Rome history. it is dedicated to all the pagan gods of Rome.

The Colosseum

It is the largest built elliptical amphitheater in the Roman Empire and history and was used for gladiatorial contests and public spectacles such as animal hunts, executions, dramas based on classical mythology. It is an oval amphitheater near the city. You can always visit the ruins in summer and the timings differ every day of the week, so please check them out before you go to visit, in the winter it's open daily at 9 am and closes one hour before sunset.

The Roman Forum

Here, you can see the ruins of ancient markets as the forum was the center of the city. It has ruins of several ancient government buildings, and you will not find any explanation on the site or nearby, so if you're interested in history, you should opt for a guided tour.

The Palatine Hill

Palatine Hill, one of the seven hills of Rome, is according to mythology, the place where Romulus and Remus founded the city. It is the oldest part of the city and was considered the most desirable neighborhood. It has an entrance fee of $9 euros and free for people below 18 years of age.

Piazza Venezia

It is the central hub of Rome, Italy. It is located at the heart of the city and sooner or later the visitor will end up at Piazza Venezia. Everything in Rome is quite close to each other. It is fascinating to spend some time here and absorb the art and architecture.

Trevi Fountain

Close to the Pantheon, you'll see the most beautiful and famous fountain of Europe: The Trevi Fountain (Fontana di Trevi in Italian). A worthwhile for everyone visiting Rome. Because of the saga surrounding it, it is famous for hosting several numbers of wedding proposals! Many people think its ideal to propose at the Trevi Fountain because of history. It is quite romantic, to be honest.

Enjoy an Italian ice cream (gelato)

Florence may be the birthplace but Romans are truly consumed with gelato. Nothing like ice cream after visiting all the amazing places in Rome as we know that gelato is quite famous here and just to refresh yourself from the hot sun even though they have only a few flavors, everything tastes fantastic. The perfect place for gelato, very close to one of the two finest ice cream shops in Rome is San Crispino, located on the Via Della Panatteria. The queue is scary, but the great things in life are hard to prevail!

Go shopping in Rome

If you love to shop, then Rome is the best place for you, as there are two important shopping streets.

Via del Corso, which has all the necessary stuff at affordable prices like Zara, H&M, where you can shop for kids and your family. You can even buy some gifts for friends.

  • Via Condotti, that is more of a high fashion street if you want to shop for branded bags, shoes, clothes in brands like Prada, Hermes, Gucci, Chanel it's way cheaper than other countries.  A Hermes bag is almost 500$ - 1000$ lesser in Europe compared to other countries. I would suggest you guys shop in Rome if you want to buy any product from a high-end brand, it's definitely worth the buy and money well spent as you can see your money hanging in your closet every day!
