Notes on the history of Sapporo:
Sapporo, otherwise known as Ishikari Plain was home to a number of indigenous Ainu settlements in the early time. It was officially recognized as a city in the year 1868. During 1870-1871, the vice-chairman of the Hokkaido Development Commission approached the American government for developing the land. The city had its first annual Snow Festival in the year 1950, which was the year where the adjacent Shiroishi Village was combined into Sapporo City. In the year 1968, the 100th anniversary of Sapporo and Hokkaido was celebrated and in the year 1971, the Sapporo Municipal Subway system was inaugurated. In 1972, Sapporo hosted the first Winter Olympics ever held in Asia. The marvelous Sapporo Dome was constructed in the year 2001 and in 2002, three FIFA World Cup matches were hosted there. In 2019, two matches of the Rugby World Cup were held in the Sapporo Dome. The city of Sapporo has a very vivid and beautiful history and with time, the city has grown to its full potential.

The Sapporo Airport (SPK) has two separate airports. One is the Okadama Airport, which is ideally suited for regional flights within Hokkaido, and the other is the New Chitose Airport, which is a larger airport with international flight connectivity. Streetcar Line: It is currently the only circular tram system in Asia. It is operated by the Sapporo City Transport Bureau and was inaugurated in the year 1909 as the Sapporo Stone Horsecar Railway.
Rapid Transit: It has various rapid transitways to travel around the city in very little time. These include the Sapporo Municipal Subway that is the most preferred mode of commute there. It is the only rubber tire metro in Asia. The other is the Mount Moiwa Ropeway and the Teineyama Ropeway. These are the Japanese aerial lift line in Sapporo climbs the Mount Moiwa and transports skiers in winter to the hilltop.
Rail: There are three JR Hokkaido stations in Sapporo that run all over the city, namely the Hakodate line, Chitose line, and Sassho line. These railway lines connect from one end of the city to the other end.
Air: The city of Sapporo is served by two different airports, namely Okadama Airport for regional and domestic travels, and the other New Chitose Airport for international travel. The airport shuttle bus and the charter bus services in all the hotels every day all around the year.
